On February 14, 2023, Seattle voted to create a social housing developer through I-135 by a 14% margin. Now we’re looking to fund the social housing developer through the creation of a payroll tax on excess compensation.

What is social housing?
Social housing is removed from the speculative market, available to all, permanently affordable and publicly owned in perpetuity

Where does the money come from?
Employers will pay the social housing payroll tax. Employers who compensate an individual employee over $1 million in a year will pay a 5% surtax on that excess compensation.
